One Reverse Mortgage Names “The Fonz” as Spokesperson

June 2nd, 2010  |  by John Yedinak Published in News, Quicken, Reverse Mortgage  |  11 Comments

NewImage.jpgOne Reverse Mortgage announced Henry Winkler as its new spokesperson on Tuesday.  Known to most as “The Fonz” or Arthur Fonzarelli from Happy Days, he is also a published children’s author, producer, and has planned appearances on the upcoming second season of USA Network’s Royal Pains.

“As we began the search for a spokesperson, our criteria was simple – we insisted on a person of great character who could help us spread the word about reverse mortgages and our company,” said Jay Farner, CEO of One Reverse Mortgage. “Henry embodies this quality and has shown, through his excellence as an actor, children’s author and family man that he represents all that One Reverse Mortgage is about.”

The Fonz joins the ranks of Robert Wagner and Fred Thomspon as celebrity representatives for reverse mortgage lenders.  Farner said Winkler’s integrity will be very helpful in extending its reach with retirees and seniors, “allowing us to open the dialogue about reverse mortgages and the many benefits they offer folks 62 or older,” he said.

“Once I learned of the work One Reverse Mortgage was doing to help seniors, I was immediately interested,” Winkler said. “I have always been committed to helping others, and I see my work here as the next step in that effort. Reverse mortgages provide homeowners with options, and unfortunately, not enough people know they exist. If I can help just one person save his or her home or live a happier retirement, my efforts will be well worth it.”

Henry Winkler is a great choice and will have a positive impact on the industry and influence on seniors. He is exactly the kind of individual our industry needs and will be a great spokesperson.

Congratulations to One Reverse and Mr. Winkler.

  • lpassman

    pathetic…..

  • jeromew

The more Companies that promote Reverses using such popular, well-known Spokespeople in different TV Ads, the Better image the Industry as a whole will build.
A rising tide lifts all boats.

  • isitfriday

I'm wondering what you find as “pathetic”? I agree with The Critic that Mr. Winkler is well respected and he can only do good in an industry in need of positive reinforcement.

    I like the spot
I think it was put together nicely

  • James_E_Veale_CPA_MBT

Liked Henry. Thought the message was on point. Was disappointed with the “tax-free cash.” I hope One Reverse is willing to reimburse any family who relies on the spot and ends up with an income tax liability.

While he is a good character, I wonder if he is a bit too young for the over age 62 demographic to identify with. The reverse mortgage prospects were all in their mid twenties and older when the Happy Days TV show aired.

    Hey John,

I am an older baby boomer and my kids drove my wife and I crazy over the Fonz. He is huge in the entertainment industry and he is extremely well thought of among charities. He is also well known in the Jewish community. He relates to younger seniors since he is one himself. Don't be fooled, the Fonz will do a great job of relating to baby boomers. Born just months before 1946, he is close to being one himself.
