Meg Burns Leaving HUD to Join FHFA, Will Be Missed

April 13th, 2010  |  by John Yedinak Published in FHA, News, Reverse Mortgage  |  6 Comments

Margaret Burns, Director of Single Family Program Development will be leaving the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in two weeks to accept a position at the Federal Housing Finance Agency said the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association.

Over the years, Burns has played an important role in the development of the HECM program and has been very supportive of the reverse mortgage industry.

“Meg Burns has been an exemplary government official,” said NRMLA President Peter Bell. “She has shown a tireless commitment to her Department, to the individual programs operated by the Department, to the business people who interact with and depend on the department.”

“She has been forthright with reverse mortgage professionals when they misused the program and their biggest booster when their efforts helped realize its potential. Meg possesses a large vision of the affect that government can have on society and all of us treasured and benefited from that. We will truly miss her wisdom, her enthusiasm and her humor.”

Meg has been a huge asset to the industry and there is no doubt she will be missed. Donna Tomposki, Deputy Director at HUD will temporarily take over until a replacement is found said NRMLA.

It was most evident to me when I first met Meg a few years ago at my first “Reverse Mortgage Day” in Austin, Texas that she is truly all that Peter Bell says she is in today's article. I, too, wish her all the best in her new venture.

This is a huge loss to our industry. Meg is a dynamic person and has always been a huge supporter of the HECM program. She will be missed.

Mrs. Burns has been a tremendous supporter of the HECM program. She is someone who enthusiastically goes out of her way to help lenders, originators, and those we serve. It has always been a joy to see her at NRMLA events and to gain from her insights. Her service to the industry has been very much appreciated by Security One Lending, Inc. and particularly by several of us there who have had the privilege of working directly with her from time-to-time.

We will miss Meg at FHA but we believe FHFA is better by her move there. We look forward to her ongoing support despite her move and new position.

Congratulations, Meg!!! We wish you the best.

I too wish to offer one of the brightest lights in these dim watt days the best good wishes for a soft landing at FHFA!
