Are You Master Of Your Own Reverse Mortgage Domain?

April 30th, 2008  |  by George Published in Marketing, Reverse Mortgage  |  5 Comments

image Have you ever typed in www.reversemortgage.com? Guess where it goes….keep reading if you’re too lazy to click on the link. Whomever was responsible for acquiring that domain was a genius. What’s the value of that domain? A ton of money…..sadly, not enough to re-capitalize IndyMac… When it comes to branding, a company and/or an individual should spend considerable amounts of time and money developing their brand but a new way to think about branding and marketing relates to generic domain names. As for those who are branding themselves (i.e Donald Trump or Monte Rose - Training Session coming up!), marketing and self promotion are critical components to developing a digital persona and brand. You can always try to go the way of the Donald or Monte (trump.com or monterose.biz). If you were a document preparation company, you might pick something generic that says what it is that you do such as Reverse Mortgage Documents (http://www.reversemortgagedocuments.com or reversemortgagedocs.com). Sometimes it’s just as cool to be literal rather than abstract….most seniors probably wonder why anyone on earth would come up with some crazy name like Google or Yahoo!

I couldn’t agree with this post more. Back in April of 2004, when I recognized that the baby-boomers would turn 62 in 2008, I procured www.ReverseMorg.com thinking that the industry would blossom nicely. It certainly has. I’ve been blogging on the Reverse Mortgage Industry since last summer (www.ReverseMorg.blogspot.com) and have watched this industry explode. I had planned on entering this space, but have, instead, gotten involved in a company that aims to bring PIN Debit to the Internet. (www.PINDebit.blogspot.com) so I will not be utilizing www.ReverseMorg.com. If anyone has an interest in becoming, as John so eloquently put it, “Master of Your Own Reverse Mortgage domain, then visit www.ReverseMorg.com in order to contact me. Nice work on your blog (and getting your advertisers) John!

I agree, a good domain can realy help your business, remember, there are a lot more then .com addresses that you can use.

    I have set up www.ReverseMortgage.Pro, www.ReverseMortgage.info and www.ReverseMortgageLoan.com

I thought .pro was only for the medical profession, how did you manage that one?

Yes, domains are important. I think they give seniors a sense of trust in your company if you have a legitimate domain name. What do you guys think of .net domain names? Think seniors will trust them more or less as close as a .com domain? For exmaple www.reverse-mortgage-info.net ?? These guys do reverse mortgages California

In response to Luke. Dot.com names have the highest value, dot.net’s are second. My current company has a .net and I miss e-mails all the time because people automatically type in “dot com” Further, it has been suggested by many industry experts to avoid the use a hyphen in a domain name as people don’t know it’s there from hearing it and sounds unprofessional and confusing to advertise something like Reverse Hyphen Mortgage Hyphen info.com Your best best is a hyphen-less dot.com.
